How we handle and protect your data.

The data controller responsible for your personal data is:

DigitalKnife is built to respect your privacy. We do not sell your data, we do not use advertising networks, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. Most of your content stays on your device or in your private iCloud. This policy explains what limited data is processed and why, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
We use Sign in with Apple. Apple provides us with a unique identifier and a private relay email address. We do not receive your real email address unless you choose to share it.
Recipes, notes, meals, lists, reminders, and similar content you create are stored on your device and, if iCloud is enabled, in your private iCloud account. We do not have access to this content.
If you purchase a subscription, purchase and entitlement status is processed by Apple and by our subscription provider RevenueCat to verify and manage your subscription.
Certain online features send the data needed to function: AI recipe search sends your search text to Anthropic to generate a result; the Calorie Calculator sends ingredient search terms to the USDA FoodData Central database; music streaming requests audio files from our hosting provider (Amazon Web Services).
We use only Apple's built-in App Analytics, which provides aggregated, non-identifying statistics about app usage and performance. This is not cross-app tracking. In the app, we do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
This website uses Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly, EU-hosted analytics service. Plausible does not use cookies and does not collect any personal data. It does not track visitors across other websites or devices. All data is aggregated and anonymous, so no consent banner is required.
Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — providing the app, your account, and subscriptions. Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — keeping the app secure, stable, and improved via aggregated analytics. Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — where applicable, e.g. optional device-level analytics and notifications you enable.
We share data only as necessary with: Apple (Sign in with Apple, App Store payments, iCloud sync, App Analytics); RevenueCat, Inc. (subscription management); Anthropic (AI recipe-search prompts); USDA FoodData Central (ingredient/nutrition lookups); Amazon Web Services (music hosting/streaming). Some providers are located outside the EU/EEA (e.g. the USA). Where this is the case, transfers are safeguarded by mechanisms such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
If you enable notifications (timers, reminders, order reminders, etc.), they are scheduled locally on your device. You can disable them anytime in iOS Settings.
Content you create remains until you delete it or delete the app/your iCloud data. Subscription records are retained as required for billing and legal/tax obligations. Apple App Analytics data is aggregated and managed by Apple.
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. To exercise these, contact smartchef@digitalknife.io. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde, www.dsb.gv.at).
You can delete your account from Profile → Account → Delete account. This removes your local data; content stored in your iCloud is controlled by you in your Apple settings. Subscriptions are managed and cancelled through your Apple ID.
DigitalKnife is intended for professional and adult home users and is not directed at children under 16.
We may update this policy. Material changes will be communicated in the app. The "last updated" date above reflects the current version.
